Quick answer
A university name or directory listing alone does not settle whether a medical study route fits your future licensing plans. Verify the exact programme, current PM&DC guidance, registration obligations, teaching and clinical arrangements, and written payment terms before committing money.
1. Match the programme, not just the university name
Ask for the university’s full name, campus, programme title, qualification awarded and intake. Compare those details across the offer, prospectus, application portal and regulatory records. A university can run more than one route, and a familiar institution name does not explain the route being sold to you.
Save the original documents. A screenshot without a source link or a shortened programme name is a poor basis for a major education decision.

2. Check current PM&DC information
Read the current PM&DC institution information and relevant announcements. If the name, campus or programme does not match clearly, request clarification from the regulator before relying on an adviser’s assurance.
Record the source and the date you checked it. This guide does not certify any university as recognised and does not replace an individual determination by PM&DC. Our recognition guide can help you organise your enquiry.

3. Understand what WDOMS can establish
The World Directory of Medical Schools is a useful resource for checking a school’s identity and programme records. Its own explanation says that inclusion does not itself mean recognition, accreditation or endorsement.
Use the directory as one piece of evidence. Check the programme details and relevant notes, then return to the regulator whose licence you intend to obtain. “Listed in WDOMS” and “accepted for my future licensing pathway” are different statements.
| Evidence | Useful purpose | What to avoid assuming |
|---|---|---|
| University offer | Identifies the offered route | Automatic regulatory acceptance |
| WDOMS record | Helps identify the medical school and programme | Accreditation from listing alone |
| Regulator guidance | Explains applicable recognition and licensing rules | That every similar campus or route is covered |

Request a profile reviewAsk NICE a question4. Clarify student registration and future licensing
Ask PM&DC what registration steps apply to your planned foreign study and when those steps must be completed. Keep confirmations and receipts with your academic records.
The 5 October 2026 MDCAT notice concerns passing MDCAT as a foreign-admission prerequisite for Pakistani students. It should not be read as a blanket waiver of registration, recognition or future licensing requirements. See our policy explainer for the specific change.

5. Get teaching and clinical arrangements in writing
Confirm the teaching language, any preparatory stage, language requirements for clinical training and where practical study takes place. Ask how the internship is arranged and what documentation is provided at completion.
A programme advertised in English may still require language learning for patient communication. Plan for that reality rather than treating language preparation as an inconvenience to be ignored.

6. Compare the complete financial commitment
Request an itemised quote separating tuition, accommodation, insurance, deposits and service charges. Confirm the payment recipient and ask for refund conditions, including what happens after rejection, withdrawal or a visa problem.
Discuss the plan as a family using the same written figures. Leave room for living expenses and unexpected costs; do not compare universities using a tuition-only headline. Our fee planning guide helps structure the comparison.

7. Pause when an important answer is missing
Before paying, make a folder containing the offer, current university instructions, regulatory evidence, document checklist, fee breakdown and refund terms. Mark unresolved questions clearly. If someone asks you to transfer money before those questions can be answered, ask for time to complete the checks.
For help organising an enquiry, use the university directory and requirements guide, or submit your academic profile. Guidance can help you compare routes; acceptance and licensing decisions remain with the university and regulator.
Keep an evidence folder your family can understand
Name each file clearly and include its source and the date checked. A folder for the programme, one for regulatory correspondence and one for payments can be enough. Keep the original offer and official replies alongside your own summary so someone else can review the decision.
Before transferring money, ask a family member to check the unresolved questions with you. This is a practical way to spot a missing campus name, an unclear payment recipient or a fee that was left out of the first quotation.
Know when to seek clarification
A spelling variation may be harmless, but an unexplained difference in campus, qualification or teaching route deserves an answer. Ask the university to explain the discrepancy and the regulator to clarify the implications where necessary. A directory screenshot or an adviser’s confidence cannot substitute for a relevant official response.
If a promised scholarship or refund matters to affordability, request the written conditions. Avoid building your plan around an award that has not been confirmed.
Use the checklist alongside current intake instructions
This checklist helps organise your decision; it does not decide eligibility for you. Pair it with the university’s current prospectus and applicable regulator guidance. Review the CSCA and MDCAT comparison, admissions guide and student FAQs as you prepare your questions.
If you want help turning your documents into a clear enquiry, contact NICE with the exact programme, intake and questions you want answered.

Does WDOMS listing mean PM&DC recognition?
No. WDOMS states that directory listing does not itself denote recognition, accreditation or endorsement. Check the applicable PM&DC information separately.
Does the MDCAT exemption guarantee recognition?
No. The exemption removes passing MDCAT as a foreign-admission prerequisite for Pakistani applicants; it does not certify a particular university or programme.
Which programme details should match?
Check the full university name, campus, programme title, qualification, teaching language and intake across your offer and official records.
What should I obtain before paying?
Obtain the programme offer, current entry instructions, applicable regulatory clarification, document checklist, itemised costs and written refund terms.
